Listen to what B102.7 sounds like:

B102.7 FM is Sioux Falls Home for Classic RockWebsite: www.b1027.com

B102.7 is Sioux Falls Home for Classic Rock and Bob & Tom in the morning, targeting adults 25-54 years old. Traditionally, the format is considered to be dominated by male, blue-collar workers. However our research and input from listener polls and contests shows...

the split to be 52%-48% male to female and similar splits between “blue-collar” professions (i.e. construction, automotive shops, warehouses) to “white-collar” professions (i.e. medical and financial institutions, offices, stores) Recent studies are also showing a growing popularity of classic rock among 12-25 year olds who have grown tired of the repetition of more “current” based music formats and not having a musical genre that has taken over the music industry since the “grunge” era of the early 1990’s. The format is constantly gaining new listeners in the younger demographics looking for the music that their parents, and even grandparents, listen to.

The Bob & Tom Show is a nationally syndicated four-hour show heard on over 100 stations across the country, including B102.7 weekdays from 5am-9am. For the most part, no music is played during the show, unless they have a music act (John Mellencamp, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx, and Ted Nugent have all been guests on the show.) or musical comedy. Instead, they focus on comedians, regular “callers”, and taking a “different” look at what is going on in the world. More can be found under “Morning Show”. Outside of morning drive, B102.7 is a music intensive station playing the best known and time-tested rock songs from the past five decades. But we still allow the DJ’s personalities to come through with contests and promotions and relatable artist news. More can be found under “Music Format”.

Music Format

Classic rock is our business, and business is good! B102.7 plays all the best in rock music from the 1960’s through the present day. Our main focus is really the late 60’s through early 80’s. The play list is made of up several different sub-sections of rock: The “staples” of classic rock stations: Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles. The “soft rock” of The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, et al. “Harder-edged” rock, for example: AC/DC, Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, etc. 70’s and 80’s “arena rock” by bands such as Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Bon Jovi, etc. Southern rock from Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top and the Allman Brothers; the singer/songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Bob Dylan; and even the Blues of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jonny Lang. B102.7 takes the best of all the genres of “classic rock” and leaves out the new, three-chord screaming heard on active rock stations.

Morning Show

B102.7 is Sioux Falls’ Home for Bob & Tom in the morning, a nationally syndicated show heard from 5am-9am weekdays on over 100 stations across the country. They’re known for their comedy, whether it’s something produced themselves or with the help of regular characters such as Larry King, & former President Bill Clinton to Donnie Baker and Ernie Fergler. Special Features

Since B102.7 is a “Classic” based format, the music doesn’t change a lot, so we do a lot of specialty shows and weekend themes to keep the station sounding fresh and relevant.

-Past & Present sets: A classic song by an artist is paired with a song off their latest CD. Example: Tom Petty 's “Breakdown” paired with “Flirting With Time” from his latest CD. It gives listeners a chance to hear new music from their favorite artists and also gives the “classic” artist radio airplay where most of the “current” based formats ignore them.

-10:00 Rock Block: Twice a day, at 10am and 10pm weekdays, B102.7 features an artist with three songs from their catalog.

-Rock Quiz: Weekday mornings at 9:45, we ask a question about an artist, or a song, or give lyric lines, etc. for prizes.

-Get The Led Out: Led Zeppelin is regarded as the greatest hard rock band of all-time and weeknights at 9pm, we play three Led Zeppelin classics.

--Blues Fix at 6: Three new and/or classic Blues songs, paying tribute to the music that was the forefather of classic rock. Artists include Buddy Guy & BB King to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, to artists that may be coming to the area for concerts including JazzFest, which is promoted year-round on B102.7!

--All Request Nooner and All-Request Drive at 5: Listener requests drive the 12pm-1pm hour and 5pm-6pm.

-Classic CD Playback: each weeknight at Midnight, B102.7 picks a “classic album” i.e. The Eagles “Hotel California”, The Rolling Stones “Sticky Fingers”, and plays the CD in its entirety.

-80’s Attic: Sunday nights at 7pm, we have an hour of classic from the “Decade of Decadence”, the 1980’s, generally with themes such as “Hair Bands”, Power Ballads”, “One Hit Wonders”, "Class Reunion", etc.

-Under The Covers: On the last Sunday night of the month at 6pm, Scott Davidson hosts a show dedicated to the great “cover” songs that are well-known on B102.7, and he digs up the original version and gives the stories “behind the music”.

-Flashback: Sunday mornings from 6am-10am, Bill St. James hosts the long-running “Flashback” with looks at different years or decades of music, common threads, featured artists, and plays the music, gives trivia about the times, and even has classic commercials, and TV & movie audio from the era’s that he highlights.

Then from 9pm-10pm, its Dave Johnson and Blues Deluxe, offering “the Best in Blues.” Johnson also plays new and classic Blues songs and also has his “Blue Bloods” artist of the week where he plays a song from an unsigned Blues band.

-The Classics: Sunday nights from 10pm-Midnight, Chicago DJ Steve Downes hosts the Classics with different themes ranging from “live performances”, to musical “common-threads”, to spending two hours with a particular guest such as Pete Townshend, interviewing them and playing new and classic songs by that artist.
