     On a frosty winter night in 1974, a 10 year old boy in Huron, South Dakota with a typical attention span of… oh, about a minute… is listening very intently.

There in the dark, with my trusty Minnesota Vikings mini football helmet radio tucked under my pillow, I carefully scan the dial for a familiar signal far… far away. 

I do not like them, Sam I am. 
I do not like green eggs and ham. 

In 1956 Dr. Suess took 220 words, rhymed them and turned out “The Cat In The Hat”, it is a little absurd but it turned into magic.  When we were kids we were infatuated with things like that and never stopped asking why or how!  I attempt to keep asking those questions and others with my clients.  My marketing theory is to find a way to get people infatuated with your business, like we as kids were quick to step into the pages of Dr. Suess or any other book that took us to far away places.  In the end of course Sam loved green eggs and ham, in the end people will love your business too!  To quote another Dr. Suess title……”Oh The Places We Will Go”.

After living out of a suitcase selling dairy products in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin in 1988, I finally woke up.  It was about 5am and I had just got back from a long "selling" road trip. I WAS BURNT OUT, and started thinking about my life in a different way.  I wondered what I "really" wanted to do for a living!  It all started when I asked myself 'Who do I admire?'  Who do I KNOW has a job that they look genuinely really happy doing?   Well, 20 years, millions of dollars generated and hundreds of "live" broadcasts later, I'm still doing what Dave Dobell (the man I considered pretty cool who loved what he did) did.  He sold advertising on the local radio stations!  But that was just the tip of Dave's iceberg!  Dave was witty and honest, he thought out of the box, he was an idea guy. He wrote commercials that were engaging and memorable with a sincere call to action that benefited both the client and the listener.  Dave got results and I liked that!
